Conclusion

The knowledge of what's really in a hamburger or beef stew is enough to make many people lose their appetite for it (if you want to know what's in a hot dog, read Gabbe, p. 71, several hours between any planned meals). The trouble seems to be that people consider meat eating to be the norm, and vegetarianism breaking away from that norm.

The truth is that eating meat is like smoking cigarettes -- it erodes your body, clogs your arteries, and even makes you feel worse. Just as cigarette smoking has been conclusively shown to cause lung cancer, meat eating has conclusively been shown to cause heart disease, strokes, and much more. Every bite of flesh, like every puff of cigarette, sends you further down the road of disease. If we can overcome the huge power of the meat and dairy industries to spread the word about the inherent dangers of meat eating, the 12 million vegetarians already in the US will soon have more company.
