Creative constraints

“I think that we’re paralyzed by decisions in everything right now. [For example], I can have any sounding kick drum in the world I want on any track, which means I can spend all day — and any producer or author knows this — you’ll listen to like 80 different kick drums to find the one, instead of writing the song. [Whereas] old school hip hop or anything, they had whatever they had, and they made the track work.

I love that idea. Even so much [that] I intentionally limit what I can do — so that forces me to be in a creative mind space as opposed to being in just an analytical mind space.”
